Book Pick-Up (FOR FRESHMEN and TRANSFER STUDENTS ONLY!)

District 215 will open for students on Wednesday, August 19, and we are ready to begin the 2026–2027 school year. 

D215 Families and Staff,

We are devastated by the impact that the recent severe weather has had on our students, families, staff, and the greater community.  Our hearts go out to all of those impacted by this natural disaster.  As we continue communications with our local municipalities and evaluate the state of our communities, we want to share that Wednesday, August 19th will be the earliest possible return to school date for our students.  This tentative return date is dependent on full power being restored and our ability to ensure the safe transportation of our students.  We anxiously await the day we are able to welcome students back and are committed to supporting our communities.  Families who need meals can pick up a “grab ‘n’ go” breakfast and lunch on Monday, August 17th and Tuesday, August 18th between the hours of 10 am-12 pm at the following locations: 

• TF North High School (West side of building, Door W1 by cafeteria)
• TF Center High School (Door N3). 

Additionally, our cafeteria staff will be stationed at the following community locations unless accessibility due to work crews prevents it:

• Schultz Park in Lansing  10:15-10:45 am
• Erfert Park in Lansing  11:00-11:30 am
• Lake View Community Park at the Curtis Granderson Municipal Baseball Complex in Lynwood  11:45 am- 12:15 pm

Freshman orientation for Thursday, August 13th has been CANCELLED due to the storms. Stay tuned for more information.

Dear TFN Students and Parents,

With profound sadness, I share the sudden passing of deans’ assistant and head basketball head coach, Tim Bankston. Our deepest sympathy is extended to his family, his friends, and all who are grieving this painful loss including TF North students, faculty and families. To assist with the grieving process, grief counseling support is being provided for our students on Thursday, July 30^th in the TF North Guidance office from 12:30 to 4:30 pm. Coach Bankston will be missed by the entire Thornton Fractional High School District 215 family, and his positive impact will be eternal. Coach Bankston became a TF North Meteor in 1997 as a special education teacher’s aide and assistant basketball coach. In 2002 he became the head coach of the basketball program. His life experiences growing up on the south side of Chicago, playing for legendary Simeon Coach Bob Hambric, winning a State Championship, and losing his close friend, teammate, and Chicago legend Ben Wilson to gun violence, gave him insight and credibility as he inspired hundreds of students and athletes to be the best players and people, they could be. For almost 30 years Coach Bankston was a mentor that countless TFN alumni credit for being the overriding influence that made them into the positive, productive members of communities that they are today. So many of our students have benefited from his inspiration and leadership and this loss is deeply painful. Please keep Coach Bankston, his family, and the countless number of people effected by his loss in your thoughts and prayers.
