Illinois back-to-school sales tax holiday Aug. 7-16
Don't miss this opportunity to save on your back-to-school shopping!
A common question we get is "where is the school supply list for TFD?" We do not have an official list because different courses will require different supplies. However, we do recommend your student have a notebook, folder, and writing utensils for each academic course they are enrolled in. If there are other supplies needed, the teacher will let the class know during the first few weeks of school.
From ABC News Channel 20, Springfield:
Illinois shoppers will pay a reduced state sales tax on qualifying back-to-school items during a 10-day sales tax holiday beginning Aug. 7.
The state's portion of the sales tax will drop from 6.25% to 1.25% on eligible purchases made Aug. 7 through Aug. 16.
The tax break applies to clothing and footwear priced under $125 per item, along with qualifying school supplies. School supplies are not subject to the $125 price limit.
Eligible clothing includes items such as shirts, pants, dresses, coats, jackets and school uniforms. Qualifying footwear includes shoes, sneakers, sandals and boots under the price threshold.
School supplies covered by the tax holiday include backpacks, binders, calculators, notebooks, pencils, pens, crayons, markers, scissors, rulers, folders and lunch boxes.
