Update on Return to In-Person Learning 1.18.22

January 14, 2022

Dear District 215 Families,

Thank you for all you have done to support your student(s) during the district’s temporary shift to remote learning these past couple of weeks. We look forward to welcoming staff and students back to school buildings on Tuesday, January 18th.

As students return to in-person learning, it is imperative that we work together as a community to protect our staff and students from COVID-19. It will take commitment and cooperation from all to protect our school from outbreaks that may cause staff shortages and significant positivity rates that would dictate another shift to remote learning. Here’s how you can help:

  • If your child is not yet vaccinated and boosted, this is the most important tool at our disposal to combat the spread of this virus. There is no cost. (Vaccine info and appointments)
  • If your child is not opted in for our free, onsite, weekly COVID-19 testing, you can opt in by completing the online form .
  • Please talk with your child about the importance of properly wearing their mask over their mouth and nose at all times and check to be sure that your child’s mask fits properly so that it doesn’t slip below their nose. (View CDC guidance on masks)
  • Keep your child home and get them tested if they have COVID symptoms.
  • Review additional and updated District 215 COVID protocols on the district website.

The Illinois State Board of Education guidance has updated mandatory quarantine times for positive COVID cases to five days (as long as symptoms subside). Additional guidance notes that remote instruction will be provided for quarantined students.  Quarantined students may log into their classes using the unique Zoom links provided by each of their teachers.  However, teachers will not be actively monitoring Zoom chat during class time, so distribution of assignments and communication with remote students will occur outside of live classes via email, Google Classroom, or Microsoft Teams.

Enjoy the long weekend as we commemorate the tremendous life and impact of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and we look forward to welcoming students back to buildings on Tuesday.

Sincerely,
