Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Guardians:

Welcome back! The second semester is under way, grades have been submitted and semester report cards will be emailed home in a few days.  We are continuing to strive for excellence in education by offering your child a quality education that they desire.  Meeting these expectations requires the help of parents, teachers, and students.  When you receive your student’s report cards, I hope they have met your expectations. Unfortunately, some students have not met our expectations and need to make up a credit.  For these students, Credit Recovery class for all students starts January 21, 2017.

January is a very busy month.  We are looking forward to the annual “Hands across North” to commemorate Martin Luther King’s birthday. We also have multiple testing protocols planned for this month.  The first testing protocol will take place on Friday, January 13th, for all freshmen, sophomore, and junior students.  Seniors are scheduled to attend various colleges and other sights in the Chicago area.  Our junior students will start their Princeton Review training session the week of January 23rd.  All junior parents should have received a letter explaining the Princeton Review program.  We are excited about this opportunity for our students to get support from a proven and recognized program.

As the semester continues, we have a number of other events for our parents and students.

Some upcoming events to remember are:

  • Bob Hambric Shootout - January 14 & 15
  • Martin Luther King's Birthday (No School) - January 16
  • Parent-Teacher Conferences (No Classes) - February 16
  • Presidents' Day (No School) - February 20
  • African-American Authors Read-in - February 27

Even more events as well as additional details about the above can be found by viewing the Calendar of Events to the right.

And if you haven’t done so already, please download the District 215 app to receive event reminders and updates.

Remember, together we can make a difference.

All the best,

Dr. Evans

Cheyenne graduated college from Denison University with Bachelors Degree in Black Studies and Sociology/Anthropology. She applied to the Peace Corps and was accepted as a healthy youth volunteer in Lesotho, Africa. Cheyenne will be in Africa for 27 months planning educational events and teaching HIV & Aids prevention. When and if she returns she plans to apply to graduate school and study public administration. Her goal is to make a difference in the World! Her advice to TFN students, “truly take time to figure out what you want to do with your life.
