Driver Education Department

The Driver Education curriculum may be offered in three phases:

  1. Classroom
  2. Behind the wheel
  3. Simulation

All students must meet the state attendance requirements of 30 classroom hours and 6 hours behind the wheel. Prerequisites for the regular school year classroom enrollment are:

  1. A social security number prior to enrollment.
  2. Age 15 years and 3 months. Oldest students will be given first priority unless circumstances based on need warrant prior consideration. Sophomore status is required.
  3. The State of Illinois requires that a student must have had "a passing grade in at least eight courses during the previous two semesters prior to enrolling in Driver Education." Summer school classes are not considered.
  4. A student must have a cumulative grade point average of 1.60 or greater prior to enrolling in Driver Education.
