Course Sequence and Descriptions

1.  Business Writing & Technical Concepts


Length: 1 year

Credit: 1

Suggested class level: 9th & 10th

Subjects covered:

• Building efficient keyboarding skills - emphasis on speed and accuracy

• Learn to format Word documents that will help you succeed in your high school classes, future college courses and in the workplace.

• Extensive work done using Microsoft Word: Memos & Tables, Business Letters, MLA Research Papers, Resumes & Cover letters, Newsletters & Flyers, Mail Merge

• Introduction to MS PowerPoint, MS Excel, and MS Publisher

**Dual Credit Course: Successful completion of this course will allow the student to receive 4.5 credit hours from South Suburban College (OAT 100 Basic Keyboarding Skills 1.5 credit hours & OAT 128 Word Processing for Windows 3 credit hours)

2.  Microsoft Office Technology


Length: 1 year

Credit: 1

Suggested class level: 10th - 12th

Microsoft Office Technology is designed to train students to use the fundamentals of computer processing. The course is structured around hands-on applications as well as major project work, with an emphasis on guided instruction and lectures.

Students will learn the components of:

• Microsoft Word - memos, business letters, newsletters, mail merges

• Excel - spreadsheets & graphs

• Access - databases

• PowerPoint - presentations

• Publisher - newsletters, flyer, brochures

• Internet Explorer - exploring on the web and identifying legitimate web resources.

**Dual Credit Course: Successful completion of this course will allow the student to receive 3 credit hours from South Suburban College (MIS 101 Computer Literacy & Applications, 3 credit hours)

3.  Accounting


Length: 1 year

Credit: 1

Suggested class level: 11th - 12th

Accounting is the language of business and an integral aspect of all business activities. The course is structured around hands-on applications as well as major project work, with an emphasis on guided instruction and lectures.

Students will learn the components of:

• Accounting concepts - double-entry system for all types of businesses

• QuickBooks - both manual and computerized accounting system

• Excel - spreadsheets, graphs, formulas

**Dual Credit Course: Successful completion of this course will allow the student to receive 3 credit hours from South Suburban College (ACCT 120 Financial Accounting, 4 credit hours)
